Were I to leave the Boston area, what city should I move to and why?

Top 5 most recurring subjects of your nightmares. Go.

Mine are, in no particular order:
1. Artie, my goldfish, dying.
2. Losing my teeth, though I'm a lot more nonchalant about it in my dreams these days.
3. Mysteriously becoming pregnant through non-sexual means. I've probably been having these nightmares for almost a decade now. My favorite was when it was decided that it had been divine conception and I started screaming obscenities at God.
4. Being chased. Especially when I wake up a little and start screaming at myself to WAKE UP AND END THE DREAM. I am also a VERY slow runner in dreams.
5. Weird public bathrooms, such as ones where the stall door only covers your face. Because of this, I am terrified of port-a-potties and the one-way mirror bathrooms at Jordan's Furniture.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

Personally, I wanted to be a witch/writer/artist/Catwoman/Ninja Turtle.

Holy crap, Cambridge Dance party was awesome.  They close off a block of Mass Ave for people to dance in.  They mostly played Michael Jackson (of course). It was pretty awesome dancing in the street to "Thriller" with hundreds of people.

Cambridge rocks.

Tonight I finally went to Drink in Fort Point.  I realized a few things:

- I miss Fort Point.  A lot.

- Drink has probably ruined me for any other bar.  I can't imagine another bar where bartenders put that much care into the art of crafting the perfect cocktail.  They are like alcohol apothecaries.  They even make their own grenadine.  How cool is that?

-I may or may not be "hip".  Being in my early 20s might make me hip be default.  But the totally rad pin from "Bobby from Boston" probably helped my hip-ness.

-Pretty, well dressed people my own age hang out in Fort Point.  Despite having worked there for 6 months, I never noticed this..

-Saying "I run a theater company in Watertown" does not, in fact, impress the traveling crew of "Spring Awakening" from NYC.  Not that I expected it to.

- The Ward 8 is tasty when done right (even if the bartender lets me substitute bourbon for rye).  It is also historical.

-Drew, who bartends at Drink is going to get Rick and myself very drunk on Monday.  When I offered to take phtos of the event, he recommended bringing a camera I "have no personal attachment to".  This may or may not be a bad idea.

-Seriously Fort Point is awesome.

I just essentially had "The Actor's Nightmare".

Only instead of famous Shakespearean actors, Paul Rudd and Eugene Mirman were there.  And I didn't have to be in a trashcan.

Praise Urban Outfitters, patron saint of my scrawny ass.

(Who knew walking at least a mile a day makes your butt disappear?  I certainly didn't.)

Met up with Rick and his friend who was visiting from California, Darren for ice cream.  Afterward we went for a walk down the Esplanade as neither of them had ever been there before.  It was a good walk with good company.

I often forget that not everyone spends their free time wandering aimlessly around Boston.  This spring/summer I'm taking all of you on a walking tour of neat things around here.

Facebook is failing me, as I stopped knowing how to use it when they launched the redesign.  In light of this, my new plan in life is to live really close to everyone so when I miss Facebook invites because I don't know how to view them, I have a decent chance of accidentally stumbling upon the event anyway.  Such was the case with tonight's writer's workshop.   I was ridiculously unprepared, but it was nice to hear what people are working on.

Today I smiled at a cute boy on the train.  And then he smiled back.  It was surprisingly un-terrifying.

Anyone want to go to Banger! at the Middle East Downstairs?: http://www.last.fm/event/964258

I think most folks who'd be interested are away this weekend, but on the off chance you want to go, drop me a line/text message.

Today's photo: a painted window in the pawn shop at Washington and East Berkeley.  It's next to my bus stop going home from work.

Eventually all of the photos will be on my website.  Once I design it and recode the whole damn thing.  Until then, I'll post a photo here and there.

Yesterday I flipped off some jerk who ran a red light and nearly hit me on Harvard Street. Sadly, I was wearing mittens and just looked silly.

My phone ended up held hostage Maine after Heroes last week. I have a new phone and have the intention of not losing it at 90's Night this week. Anyone want to come with?

Also this week - the last 3 days of Rossum's Universal Robots. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8PM at the Arsenal Center for the Arts. It's a good show, you should see it. I'm not just saying that because I'm the producer. I'm also occasionally part of the robot horde. After this weekend, I can go back to living my life (outside of the blackbox theater) again. I only hope I remember how.

Um... so let's do things next week?

Off that and also inspired by Calvin Harris:

What part of 80's pop culture do you wish would come back in all its glory?  I myself feel like I'm only just getting acquainted with the 80's, but good god I loves me some 80's synthpop and new wave*.

Aside from the music (which, in a way, is coming back), my vote is currently for the Flock of Seagulls hairstyle:

What do y'all think?

*I realize more and more each day that
[profile] phatmike  is in fact right - New Order is the best band ever.

While trying to prove to Justus that, yes, Yello has more than one song, I came across this:

I'm usually not a big fan of youTube, but this is seriously the best thing ever.

Your lives are empty without seeing this.

Cora and I just made Grammie Kimball's Chocolate Chip cookies (with the secret ingredient).  I feel very nostalgic, honoring her memory with baked goods.  I haven't had these cookies in years.

Then we watched cartoons and ate cookies.  It was wonderful.

Ok, off my last entry since I've been thinking about it a lot:

In your opinion, is it weird to talk to strangers on public transit?  Is it considered weird to do so where you live but seems fine in other cities?  What's an acceptable topic of conversation or way of engaging in discussion?

And, more specifically, for my local folks: Is it weird to strike up a conversation with a random individual on the T in Boston?

The answer might simply be "it's not weird" for all of these, but I feel like there are many factors which could make quite a difference.  So what do you think?

Back to business as usual.  I've some new books and some new music from the experience, so it was still worthwhile.

However, the tearful 6AM T ride to the airport a few months back I could have done without.  Apparently.

Dorky crush on a fellow commuter from Coolidge Corner to Arlington.  Have yet to figure out how to converse.  I probably seem like a total creeper.

But hey, it's pretty comfortable.

It just took me under 30 minutes to get home!!!!

(This is seriously one of the best things that's happened to me in a while.)

With a month an a half left of summer, I figured I should compile a list of everything I've been meaning to do this summer.  If any of them sound like fun to you, you're welcome to join me in adventuring:

1. Visit the Harbor Islands. I meant to do this last summer.  I've no clue what they're like, or what's there, but, hey, they're islands.  In a harbor.  Neato.

2. Visit Fort Independence. Seems like a great place to take photos.

3. Go to Dancing on the Charles. Only one left, right?

4. Explore Southie and JP. I work in Southie, but I've never ventured further than the courthouse and ICA (except for St. Patrick's Day).  I've been to JP all of once.  I spend so much damn time in Allston/Brighton, Back Bay, Downtown and Cambridge - it'd be nice to see something else in (or around) Boston.

5. Go to the beach. Not in formal attire this time.

6. Go to the North End for one of the Feasts. Caught the end of one last year, and it was really neat.

7. RESTAURANT WEEK! Perhaps with the lovely and talented Miss Viv.

8. Go somewhere, anywhere, that is not in Massachusetts or New Hampshire.  'Nuff said.

There's probably more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.  I am open to other ideas for summer adventures, especially from people who wish to go on adventures themselves.
